I also wanted a career that involved providing something of worth to others and franchising was a good way of getting into a new industry. “There is also a very real benefi t to being part of a franchise rather than trying to start

a business from scratch. This is particularly true for the care sector as the legislation is complex. The care sector attracted my attention because it was clearly a growth industry and was providing a service which I knew I could feel passionate about.” For those new to care, having a


background in social care is not a prerequisite for owning a successful care franchise. Caremark has a wide range of professionals in its network who come from various career backgrounds. Management experience and a passion for the industry are needed, as well as the drive and ambition to build a thriving business in the local community. Franchisees should hold the ability to network and engage with people from all walks of life, particularly in the early days, when they’ll be forging relationships with local authority commissioners, NHS Clinical Commissioners and the private sector. New business owners, however, are not left on their own to launch and grow their business. Regional development managers (RDMs) work closely with their franchisees from day one, guiding them through the early days of development and supporting them to build a sustainable business. Although Caremark provides


comprehensive initial training followed by long-term support, ultimately, the franchisee is totally in charge of their own business and their destiny. Janis adds: “I thought the level of support off ered to franchisees by Caremark was particularly strong, both in the fi eld by their RDMs and from their support team at their central offi ce. All franchisees have regular contact with their RDM, which is helpful and enables one to keep developing one’s business in the most effi cient way.” Starting any business requires vision, determination and hard work. Certainly Caremark’s franchise is no diff erent to any other business in that regard. For the right individual, a care franchise could be just the exciting change they are looking for, off ering a long-term business opportunity and a career that is both fi nancially and personally rewarding.
