One year on... A secure future
Lee Fowler worked in the security sector for 20 years before launching his Wirral-based Jackson Fire & Security franchise. Here, he takes a look at the events of his past year in business…
What did you do before investing in a franchise?
Having worked in the security sector for 20 years prior to buying the franchise, I had a good understanding of the industry. My role as a contracts manager gave me the platform to push on early with growing my business.
How has the past year been for you? In the past year, my business has grown rapidly with the award of a major contract with a large government transport organisation based across Merseyside. With the marketing support, this contract award was then publicised in the local press raising further awareness of our brand in my local area, leading to further new contracts.
What are the benefi ts of running a Jackson franchise? I like the fl exibility and being in control of your own business. It wouldn’t be possible to have achieved what I have so far without the franchise tendering support for large contracts. The industry accreditations you take on with a Jackson franchise are the highest level, allowing you to bid for large value contracts from the start, whilst still completing training.
What has been your most memorable moment over the last year? My highlight is securing a contract with the largest public transport provider in my region – Merseytravel. We service fi re
safety systems throughout the two Mersey tunnels. This has led to further work servicing fi re safety systems on board their ferries across Merseyside. I enjoy the variety of diff erent businesses
that you visit and subsequently build relationships with.
What are your plans for the rest of 2017 and beyond? To build on the successful customer database we have and strive to gain more business. I am confi dent this will happen with a mixture of local networking events and various online and offl ine marketing campaigns.
What is your top business tip? I had the luxury of knowing the industry well before starting the franchise. I would encourage anyone considering a franchise to visit the head offi ce and spend time with the team to gain an understanding of their business operations to decide whether the model fi ts with your own business objectives.
