Promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in standards and standards development

Including digital trust in the school curriculum could provide a talent

pipeline for the future

management, AI ethics and third-party vendor risk management. She also recommends that these concepts are built into a robust assurance framework to demonstrate digital trust, including, for example, internal audit work plans. “Customers are often more willing

to share their data when they know all possible risks have been accounted

for. BSI is now at the intersection of shaping digital trust, building organizational resilience and sharing and embedding best practices for organizations across the globe. This is especially important where there is no global regulatory consensus or definition of digital trust. BSI’s DSAG presents an opportunity for practitioners like myself to influence

the way that digital trust develops.” Another direction that Evie believes would be fruitful for BSI is providing a bridge between regulatory requirements, such as those laid down by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and ISO standards, with guidance to provide clarity around operationalizing digital trust and compliance.

“At the moment there are pockets of synergy between standards and regulatory requirements and BSI is looking to strengthen that link between them to provide a valuable and needed win-win for regulators and industry.” Another recommendation from Evie is to introduce the concept and practice of digital trust and all its component parts in the school curriculum to help build the talent pipeline of the future. “The UK government wants to create an environment that allows technical innovation in the UK to flourish. We need to see that whole ecosystem develop and I believe that starts with education. Building a future where digital trust is embedded in both business and society requires effort across the entire ecosystem. This effort will be rewarded with customer retention and enhanced growth potential.”
