BSI is playing a critical role in convening forward-thinking and influential digital leaders and experts to identify and prioritize common goals and challenges, and to understand where existing and new standards can build greater confidence in new technologies.
This makes it easier for organizations to work together – with consensus- based standards as the common reference point for buyers and sellers alike – and facilitates the transition to a digital economy. “Our role as the UK’s National Standards Body (NSB) bringing
together industry experts to develop industry baseline standards, positions us for effective and impactful convening,” says Joy Tan, Senior Standards Manager, Digital, BSI. “Connecting thought leaders from the digital world helps us to identify emerging trends and new risks so that we can feed this intelligence into our standards-making. “We are one of the world’s most influential NSBs with a strong track record of actively shaping and contributing to digital standards within ISO and IEC. For example, BSI proposed the Management System
Standard ISO/IEC 27000 Information Security Management, which was based on a British Standard. “With our fast-track standards,
BSI Flex and PAS, we can also be very responsive to industry needs. Organizations using our digital-related standards know that they are up-to- date with the latest guidance.” Crucially, BSI’s industry engagement starts well before the development of standards themselves. BSI convenes a wide range of stakeholders through communities of practice, like the DT Hub and AI Standards Hub (see pages 22-24). BSI also created a Digital
wide range of stakeholders from the UK Government and the public and private sectors. As well as industry experts, BSI works closely with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) across the board to explore and collaborate on standards that are integral tools to support businesses and emerging technologies.
“Our vision for DSAG is to work with leading experts to gain valuable industry input in terms of focus areas, challenges and opportunities to inform BSI’s strategy in the digital arena. It ensures key developments in the digital world are on our radar,” says Joy (see ‘Digital insights’ pages 35-43). “Our model is one of continuous collaboration. As part of establishing DSAG as an industry and world-leading expert group, we aim to broaden
