Consensus will accelerate transition
The pace of change of digital technology, with continuous innovation and new approaches, may sometimes seem at odds with the need to take the time to reach agreement on good practice. The reality is that consensus on key aspects of technology adoption has never been more important. Common approaches are central to building shared trust and confidence, from considering what tech to procure, to sharing and protecting data, or addressing the needs of supply chains and the public. BSI is engaging with hundreds of stakeholders to build a common approach to the responsible adoption of technology
“Reaching agreement in this fast-changing market requires a flexible approach, blended with rigour and broad consultation”
knowledge on existing good practice. Our consensus-building work spans artificial intelligence, data, quantum technology and beyond. By its very nature, this is a collective endeavour and we have been partnering with the UK government and leading industry bodies on several
initiatives including the AI Standards Hub in support of the National AI Strategy, and the creation of a Data Standards Expert Panel in support of the National Data Strategy. It is also encouraging to see how our recommendations on cyber-physical infrastructure are reflected in the
government’s recent consultation response on this topic. We have engaged with hundreds of stakeholders over the past months on these and other topics and shared some of the insights in this publication. There is more to come, including extending this consensus- building into areas like 5G. We will share more through our website and online channels as each of these progresses. I’d also like to say a special thank you to our Digital Strategic Advisory Group (DSAG), a set of highly experienced industry leaders and experts, who provide invaluable input on key industry priorities for standardization. Several of the DSAG members have contributed their fascinating insights as part of this publication.
