Introduction
1.1 Background 1
This document ‘Outline Converter Station Design Principles Statement’ is to be read in conjunction with the Design and Access Statement (DAS)1 prepared as part of EAOW’s DCO application documentation and submitted to PINS for examination and in order to demonstrate compliance with National Policy Statements (NPSs).

It provides clarification of design guidelines for the East Anglia ONE (EA ONE) Onshore Converter Station located adjacent to an existing National Grid substation near Bramford, Ipswich. The principles contained in this document have been agreed with Suffolk County Council and Mid Suffolk District Council.

The purpose of this document is to contribute to early engagement with all those involved in the detailed design process of the converter station, and in particular to describe a set of outline design principles in order to support the discharge of Requirement 10 of the draft Development Consent Order (DCO).
1.2 Detailed Design Approval Onshore 4

(1) No part of Work No. 39 shall commence until details of the layout, scale and external appearance of the same, have been submitted to and approved in writing by the relevant planning authority. Work no. 39 must be carried out in accordance with the approved details.
