28.5.7.4 Determining Magnitude of Tourism Effect 36.

The magnitude of effect is gauged by estimating the amount of change to the receptor arising from the proposed project. It is evaluated against the criteria set out in Table 28.5.

Table 28.5. TourismMagnitude of Effect Criteria

Magnitude Adverse/ Beneficial

High Adverse Beneficial Medium Adverse Beneficial Low Adverse Beneficial Negligible No change Adverse

Beneficial Beneficial

28.5.8 Significance of Impact 37.

A permanent or long term adverse impact on the value of the receptor.

Large scale or major improvement of the facilities quality; extensive restoration or enhancement; major improvement of receptor quality.

An adverse impact on the value of receptor, but recovery is possible in the medium term and no permanent impacts are predicted.

Benefit to, or addition of, key characteristics, features, or elements or improvement of receptors quality.

An adverse impact on the value of the receptor, but recovery is expected in the short-term and there would be no impact on its integrity.

Minor benefit to, or addition of key characteristics, features or elements; some beneficial impact on the receptor or a reduction in the risk of a negative impact occurring.

Very minor loss Very minor benefit No change would be perceptible, either positive or negative

In line with standard EIA practice, the sensitivity of receptors (Table 28. 2 and Table 28.4) is considered against the Magnitude of Effect (Table 28.3 and Table 28.5) to determine the significance of impact (Table 28.6).
