ITM UPDATE SIMONE BUCKLEY Targeting talent
The hunt is on for a new ITM CEO – can you take it to the next level?
A
S SOME OF YOU ARE READING THIS I will be hosting my sixth and last ITM conference as CEO. So much has changed in the last six years and I’ve been privileged to work with so many great people during my tenure. I’m not leaving until September but the hunt is on to find the next ITM CEO. I can honestly say this has been the most fun, rewarding, and challenging role of my career. I think the next ITM CEO is one of you, someone who is reading this column and thinking, I could do that job, I could take ITM to the next level.
It takes many things to take on this challenge, but most of all it takes passion for the industry we work in and a desire to help the people that work within it.
Who knows what the future holds for any of us? It’s impossible these days to make predictions. On the announcement recently of the UK general election in June, my daughter asked who I thought would be the winning party? “There’s no way to answer that question,” I replied. “Because in recent political history the impossible has become possible in most cases.” Even so, our goal at this year’s conference is to create some collaborative foresight that will help us all to prepare for the impossible. Risk management is the number one priority of our buyer members and I’m excited about hearing Sir John Sawers, former chief of MI6, talking about how political unrest during his time with the intelligence service affected threat levels around the world. In true ITM style, this year we bring together more than 40 of our members in a cabaret unlike any seen before. To raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, ITM has donated time and money to audition, choreograph and rehearse your esteemed industry colleagues producing a gala evening that promises to be unforgettable (hopefully in a good way!). The talent in ITM’s Got Talent come from all corners of our membership and we owe huge thanks to them all for having the courage to come forward and participate, both on stage and behind the scenes with amazing costumes and make-up. If you are reading this at conference I hope it is fulfilling your expectations. If you are reading it anywhere else, you missed out but can catch up on all the action on our website or Facebook page. While I’m sad that this is my last conference, I can’t help but look forward to next year when I will be a delegate, back in the audience, watching, learning, collaborating and benefiting from working with such an amazing group of talented people in such a fun and challenging industry.
