‘Step-change’ reductions promised


Cynergin works closely with NHS Trusts ‘to deliver guaranteed, step-change reductions in energy consumption and carbon emissions, and improve operational performance’. The company said: “Energy performance contracts can unlock real savings. We can replace aged plant or inefficient equipment with the latest technologies for more responsive heating and cooling, ventilation, and hot water, and, equally, a lower risk of unplanned and unbudgeted maintenance costs.”


Cynergin has ‘a proven track record’ of successfully helping NHS Trusts UK-wide to invest in strategies that reduce their energy bills and dependence on the National Grid. It added: “We deliver solutions that reduce energy consumption and costs, cut carbon emissions, and add real value, using CHP plant, boilers, renewables (including solar and biomass), and heat pumps. We also have considerable experience in reducing other estate-related costs. “Our core services include ‘ESCo’ projects – operating as prime contractor for guaranteed energy infrastructure enhancements, and consultancy – providing our technical and commercial expertise to help customers develop strategy or deliver projects.”


Laser safety interlock technology


The ICS-6 Touchscreen, from Lasermet, is a laser interlock control system designed to protect personnel from accidental exposure to hazardous lasers in and around the operating theatre.


Using a laser with the interlock controller means the surgeon’s laser can only be operated once all doors, windows, and interlocked roller blinds are closed. The touchscreen is operable even with surgical gloves, and can be wiped clean. Lasermet said: “The latest innovation fits well with other touchscreen equipment installed in laser operating theatres, such as surgeons’ panels, and conforms to the laser safety standard, BS 60825-1.”
