(GE), who briefly introduced GE, and described its relationship with Clarke Energy – an authorised distributor and service provider for GE’s reciprocating gas engines, and a leading supplier of power generation equipment to UK hospitals in the form of CHP facilities. Julian Amey, IHEEM’s CEO, gave an

overview of the Carter Programme, outlining the background to the report, the key findings, the resulting 15 recommendations, and key metrics. (A full analysis of the Carter Report was published in the March 2016 issue of HEJ). He concluded with a description of how it is planned that IHEEM should work with partners to share knowledge and best practice, support the Model Hospital initiative, publish case studies, and hold further such regional events. Adam Wray-Summerson, Natural Gas Sector manager for Clarke Energy, gave a detailed presentation on several of the company’s CHP installations at Trust premises nationwide – which currently

account for over 50 MW of installed capacity within the NHS. His informative presentation provided technical details, as well as a summary of the cost and carbon savings available. The presentation concluded with a video of the recent installation at Barts Health. (http://tinyurl.com/hw5pp9q). Chris Parker gave a brief overview at the event of the benefits of IHEEM membership, and included testimonials from existing members from all parts of the sector.

Before the meeting concluded with a networking lunch, attendees enjoyed a brief tour of the Clarke Energy premises, where generator sets are routinely overhauled and refurbished. Chris Parker said: “It is planned that this type of event be repeated around the country over the next few months, hopefully at locations that are utilising GE and Clarke Energy equipment. Details will be advertised on the IHEEM website.”

Evening networking event’s success

The Design and Innovation Centre at Static Systems Group’s headquarters in the Midlands was the ideal venue for a recent event aimed at encouraging a closer working partnership between IHEEM, its members, and Company Affiliates, reports Phil Wade, director of marketing at the IP nurse call, fire, and custodial alarm system specialist.

The early evening session included presentations by Julian Amey, IHEEM’s CEO, who updated attendees on the progress and involvement of IHEEM in Lord Carter’s Productivity and Efficiency Programme. Step Exhibitions’ Steve Webb then reported both on this year’s Healthcare Estates event, and on Hospital Innovations 2017, which will take place in London from 26-27 April 2017. Both events are organised on behalf of, and fully supported by, IHEEM. Chris Parker, the Institute’s membership development manager, then discussed how Company Affiliates and members could more actively engage at branch meetings, technical seminars, conferences, and exhibitions. The event concluded with a visit to the P21+ Repeatable Room multi-bed bay, part of Static System’s Design and Innovation Centre. Phil Wade said: “We have been involved with IHEEM for many years, and really see the value in networking with members and Company Affiliates. We were delighted to host this event. Our four-bed ward facility is ideal for such a forum, as it allows open debate, discussion, and dialogue, on best practice and current developments.” Julian Amey added: “Company Affiliates are really important to IHEEM. Their engagement and support is vital to the Institute. They bring a wealth of expertise and experience, and really add value to the membership as a whole. We would encourage any organisation involved in healthcare estates and engineering to consider Affiliate membership if they have not already done so. Companies that are already members can access a host of networking opportunities, including conferences and seminars. The Static Systems event was a great example of how this can be mutually beneficial.”
