Healthcare Estates A busy two years in office

I am delighted to inform you that, with October fast approaching, the time has come for the annual IHEEM Conference, Dinner, and Exhibition. The event will be a very special moment for me, marking the end of my two-year Presidential term in office at IHEEM. The Manchester show will also enable me to give attendees an update on the progress of activities I have been undertaking in the past year – a number of them reflect IHEEM’s strong links with the Department of Health and industry. I am delighted that one of our keynote speakers in 2016 will be David Williams from the Department of Health. In order to continue to strengthen and broaden further IHEEM’s presence and role within the wider industry at large, the Institute is also continuing to work very closely with our partners in other well- established and leading professional bodies – such as HefmA, IPEM, CIBSE, CIPHE, RIBA, and NAHFO – in order to promote innovation and high standards, as well as to ensure that technical guidance is updated. The Institute is also continuing to work closely with some of the City of London’s Livery Companies, including the Worshipful Company of Plumbers and the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers, in order to pro- mote bursaries and work placements, linked to its championing of EngTechNow in recruiting more apprentices, craftspeople, and technicians into the workforce. Cover Story Touchsafe Pro ‘a revolution in nurse call systems’

Aid Call’s Touchsafe Pro has been designed specifically for the hospital market, and has HTM compliance at its heart, having been created in accordance with the guidelines laid out within Health Technical Memorandum 08-03. The company said: “We produce the finest healthcare technology, which supports you in your efforts to supply the best standard of care to your patients, with advanced software to support your team in providing effective, patient- centred care while remaining easy to use.” Touchsafe Pro’s wireless configuration allows for complete flexibility and mobility. Without having to rely on cables and stationary wiring points, installation is quick, undisruptive, and specific to each site. The system can facilitate individual patient requirements, adapt to change, and be added to over time.

software achieve ‘unrivalled functionality’ – improving the speed of call responses, and increasing the depth of information available to staff and management alike. This enhances team performance, and supports staff in providing the most effective care. Aid Call’s nurse call systems are programmed to track and record all call information. Details of outgoing calls are stored, including call location and response time, to provide a comprehensive insight into staff activity and performance. Aid Call added: “This protects you and your staff, and is an invaluable auditing tool. With user-friendly touchscreens, and the option of emergency or cardiac pull-stop configuration, the Touchsafe Pro is our most advanced system to date.”

theme of this year’s conference pro- gramme is ‘Transforming the Estate through Collaboration’, and the conference has been structured around this highly important and current issue. IHEEM’s Technical Platforms – a key means of knowledge transfer to all of our members – will also be very active at the conference in promoting knowledge related to their spe- cialist areas. We would also like to give a very special thanks to all of our exhibitors for the tremendous support they give to IHEEM and the wider healthcare sector. At our annual Dinner, the Institute’s high calibre Awards will recognise excellence in a variety of categories, and we encourage you all to be there on the night to support your colleagues and celebrate their suc- cess. All our winners have reached excel- lence in their fields, and I will be delighted to congratulate all of them on the night. Our special guest at this year’s dinner will be doctor, journalist, broadcaster, and comedian, Phil Hammond. I am sure that this year’s event will be a great success, which is down to the hard work and dedication of all the organising team, who I would like to personally thank for all their outstanding efforts. I very much look forward to welcoming all of you to Manchester next month.
