CLEANING SHOW REVIEW
SPECTACULAR SEMINARS
While the games and robots added a bit of spectacle and entertainment at the Cleaning Show, it was also a great opportunity to learn something new as well – in no small part thanks to the extensive seminar programme.
Covering everything from health and safety, the living wage and working at height to marketing strategies, robotics and the trends of the future, there was something for everyone in the seminar theatre as the industry’s best and brightest came out to speak.
TREMENDOUS TECHNOLOGY
One of the major developments within the cleaning industry over the past 12 months has undoubtedly been the phenomenal rise in technology, and that was plain to see across the Cleaning Show this year. Whether it be the introduction of new online monitoring systems such as SCA’s
Tork Easycube and Dutch-based LEVIY’s Dashboard, or the sharp uprising in the number of robotic floor cleaners – showcased here by ICE and Nilfisk – if what was on show at the Cleaning Show this year is anything to go by, the technological revolution shows no sign of slowing down.
What’s more, it’s great to see the industry fully embracing these new developments. I must admit that when the first robotic floor cleaners were unveiled to the industry, it sounded a bit like science fiction and something that while great in practice, wasn’t something I expected to see come into play so quickly. However, getting to see just a few of the large number of robotic machines already available on the market (as many as 12 companies are currently producing their own cleaning robots) up close and personal at the show was very exciting and proof that the world of tomorrow is not too far away.
And as if the floor cleaning robots weren’t enough to draw some guests in, ICE had a completely different type of robot on display alongside its Robo 2, as Chairman Darren Marston brought his own dancing robot along to the show. As you’ll be able to tell from our little video, he had some impressive moves, even on the last day of proceedings as the rest of us we flagging.

And organisers were pleased to learn that their efforts to make this year’s seminar programme extra special paid off, as official figures show that over the course of the three days, more than 1,000 visitors took in a talk or two – whether it was Andreas Lill, Director General of the European Federation of Cleaning Industries, who discussed the European cleaning industry in
