understanding of sustainability in their hotel.
This year’s winner, presented by Diversey Care’s President Dr. Ilham Kadri, was Andreas Georgiou - General Manager of the Amathus Beach Hotel in Limassol, Cyprus. Mr Georgiou received the accolade for driving the implementation of a number of energy reduction projects; in particular, the hotel’s advanced central geo-exchange and heat recovery system derived from seawater. These projects have actively engaged and benefitted guests, employees and the local community alike.
As well as providing the hotel with energy, the system also uses the desalinated sea water to irrigate the hotel gardens— saving some 400 tonnes of fresh water, which is a scarce resource in the country. Other benefits, apart from considerable cost savings, include the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 1,200 tonnes.
Dr Kadri was unreserved in her praise of the award winner. She said: “Amathus is such an inspirational project. The project itself could be seen as an example of best practice for all sea resorts in the world, with a

potentially massive positive impact on a key issue: water scarcity. We all have a role to play in making this world a better place to live, and we can all be entrepreneurs of change. Amathus is a great example of that.”
Across the three-day event, Dr. Kadri also contributed to a range of lively panel discussions on luxury hospitality trends with other industry leaders. During these opportunities she spoke about how Diversey Care’s key innovations and expertise are at the forefront of delivering the experience of sustainable luxurious living in the hospitality sector.
Reflecting on the event, Dr. Kadri, said: “Sustainability is a key initiative for many hoteliers. It is crucial in increasing brand protection and guest satisfaction, and will continue to be an important part of running a successful organisation. We celebrate our continuing partnership with the EHMA, which, through our ‘EHMA Sustainability Award by Diversey Care’ award, has allowed us to promote and support those within the hospitality industry who are creating inspiring programmes that support the environment, and which are driving all of us toward a brighter future.”
