WINNER: AM Best There was little change in this category, with AM Best taking the top spot again this year with a score of 7.00, very closely followed by Standard & Poor’s (S&P) with 6.82. Third place was taken by Moody’s, with 6.17, with Fitch just behind it on 6.01. Fifth place was taken by Demotech, with a score of 4.99.


All five companies were down slightly on their 2014 scores, when AM Best had a score of 7.11, with S&P on 6.90, Moody’s on 6.33,


Fitch on 6.23 and Demotech on 5.55. AM Best was founded in 1899 and is headquartered in Oldwick, New Jersey, and has a primary focus on providing financial


strength ratings on the re/insurance industry, including insurers, reinsurers, captives and other risk-bearing entities. It also issues fixed-instrument debt ratings that cover bonds, notes, securitisation products and other financial instruments issued by insurers and reinsurers. Its debt and commercial paper ratings are used by capital-market issuers and professionals worldwide.


AM Best also publishes insurance industry references and resources, including detailed analytical reports on thousands of


insurers in the US, Canada, the UK and worldwide. The company has offices in the US, UK, Hong Kong, Dubai, Mexico and Singapore and also has a news bureau in Washington DC.
