26 New XL Grinder Quickly Pulverises Large Sample Volumes
No grinder can beat the speed of a Vibratory Disc Mill when it comes to preparing samples, e.g. for XRF analyses. In addition to the well-proven Vibratory Disc Mill RS 200 Retsch now offers the RS 300 XL for sample volumes of up to 2000 ml.
This new model allows for simultaneous processing of up to 4 samples. Thanks to the robust universal drive shaft, which sets the grinding jar into a 3-D motion, it accepts grinding sets weighing up to 30 kg. The RS 300 XL very effectively grinds hard, brittle and fi brous samples like cement, coal, minerals or electronic components by impact and friction. Grind sizes below 50 microns are typically obtained in a matter of seconds. For safe operation the grinding set is fi rmly attached to the vibration plate with a pneumatic clamping device.
A selection of grinding jar materials and sizes makes this mill versatile and suitable for grinding a variety of sample materials without affecting analysis results. Due to the high fi nal fi neness and speed both Retsch Vibratory Disc Mills are the perfect choice when it comes to preparing samples for spectral analysis.
Benefi ts of the RS 300 XL include: reproducible results and homogeneous samples; short grinding times; programmable interval function; optional Autolifter for ergonomic handling of heavy grinding sets.

Biological Sample Concentrator Range Updated
Genevac announces the second generation version of its popular miVac centrifugal sample concentrator range that features a sleek new look. Incorporating an improved pressure controller with intuitive programming and graphical display, miVac concentrators are now even easier to use. Featuring solid aluminium JetRotors, second generation miVac concentrators offer unmatched speed of evaporation in an affordable entry level system.
Capable of removing solvents from a variety of sample formats including tubes, microplates and vials, miVac concentrators can also be used to freeze dry aqueous samples. MiVac systems are suitable for use with a wide range of solvents, from volatile organic types through to water and many medium boiling point solvents. There is a choice of three medium to high vacuum pumps and a dedicated DNA system with built-in pump.
Unique to miVac concentrators is SpeedTrap, a novel frost-free, refrigerated cold trap that minimises the traditional time required to dispose of removed solvent. MiVac concentrators feature built-in special methods for working with alcohols, water and water mixtures to improve performance and optimise concentration times.
MiVac concentrators are extremely quiet when in use and typical results with water show that they are up to 40% faster than comparably priced biological sample concentrators.

Next-Generation Separatory Funnel Shaker Introduced
Wiggens introduces a new generation of separatory funnel shakers, the WS-1 and WS-1 Plus series. The intensive vertical reciprocating quick solvent extraction shaking unit is specially designed to shake six samples in identical conditions for any series or comparative protocols in chemistry, biotech, and medical labs.
The Wiggens separatory funnel shaker offers not only a classical vertical shaking model, but also an adjustable angle (0-20°) shaking model, meeting customers’ various different requirements. The one touch mounting of a separating funnel by a constant load spring system enables the unit to be ready for shaking in seconds. The unit uses a feedback loop to a digital controller with a bright LED display, which is convenient for the wide speed range and high precision of the speed control. The speed can be set between 50 and 300 rpm, with the max load of 7kg each side.
Wiggens WS-1/WS-1 Plus additionally offers two operation modes: timer operation mode (0-60min) and continuous operation.
