16 New Webinar Discusses Life Science Applications in UV/VIS Spectroscopy

This webinar from Mettler Toledo will give an overview of the most common UV/VIS applications in life sciences. It will also provide many tips and hints for optimal measurements and achieving accurate results.

Many life science applications rely on comfortably quick and easy UV/VIS absorbance measurements. From micro-volume nucleic acid and protein analysis to larger volume cell suspension measurements, this technique can be used for a wide range of applications and is very common in every life science laboratory.

Mettler Toledo is offering a free webinar on 30th March 2017. This webinar will highlight benefits of UV/VIS spectroscopy for typical life science applications. Participants will receive a variety of application examples including sufficient background information in order to understand measurement considerations. Many tips and hints from cuvette selection over sample preparation to instrument maintenance and recommendations for micro-volume measurements will be presented with the aim to optimise measurement workflows and achieve accurate results.

New Webstore for Popular Preconfigured Spectrometers and Accessories Announced

Ocean Optics has introduced a new webstore, allowing customers to shop more conveniently for a select range of its preconfigured spectrometers and accessories. The webstore is embedded into Ocean Optics’ website at www.oceanoptics.com.

The webstore lets customers shop from anywhere in the world, at any time. Users can buy from the dedicated Shop Products page or from the product pages of the main site. The products available from the webstore – select preconfigured spectrometers and accessories – display pricing, model options, recommended or required accessories, product availability and estimated shipping time on their product pages.

While the webstore was designed to let users shop independently, live chat and order review are available for assistance. Convenient shipping features are built into the site, such as allowing the use of customers’ own shipping / courier accounts and the ability to add multiple shipping addresses under one account. Tax-exempt customers can upload their documentation to be saved for future purchases. Purchase transactions are protected through the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway.

ICP-MS Provides Industry-Leading Versatility for Trace Elemental Analyses

PerkinElmer, Inc have announced the launch of the NexION® 2000 Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS). This innovative new system is specifically designed to handle any sample matrix, address any interference, and detect any particle size.

High levels of certain toxic elements in the environment or the food supply chain can be harmful to humans, plants and animals. The NexION 2000 ICP-MS system can help detect a broad range of elements at ultra trace levels. High-throughput contract lab professionals (including those for food, environmental and clinical), government and academic labs, QA/QC labs (food and pharmaceutical), and high tech and industrial labs that need elevated performance levels (semiconductor and solar) can use this system for an extensive variety of applications.

“Increasing concerns around food safety, clean water and soil have resulted in tightened industry policies, leaving analytical laboratories tasked with managing an increasing amount of samples, a broad range of sample types, and time-consuming analyses,” said Jim Corbett, Executive Vice President and President, Discovery & Analytical Solutions, PerkinElmer. “The NexION 2000 system is designed to enable our customers to run multi-elemental analyses reliably and efficiently, helping them gain fast and critical insights into important issues and ensure compliance with continually evolving regulations.”

Key features of the NexION 2000 ICP-MS include: highly flexible Universal Cell Technology™ interference removal and choice of three gas channels (the only ICP-MS system that can run pure highly reactive gases such as ammonia), for advanced detection limits; ability to handle harsh matrices and rapid changes in sample composition with minimal prep time; intelligent dilution of samples through integrated All Matrix Solution (‘AMS’) systems and extended dynamic range detector; best-in-class scanning and data acquisition speeds (100,000 points/sec), combined with proprietary software-based algorithms to provide advanced characterisation of nanoparticles and single cells; LumiCoil™ technology: revolutionary, new RF coil requiring no water or gas cooling; an intuitive user interface with pre-loaded methods; ability to leverage built-in methods for drinking water, wastewater, seawater, soil, and medicinal drugs to help with compliance with international regulations and guidelines such as U.S. EPA 6020, EPA 200.8, ISO 17294, USP 232/233 and ICH Q3D.

New Raman Spectrometer for on-site Verification of Materials in Seconds

The Mira M-3 is the new handheld Raman spectrometer from Metrohm. Barely larger than a smartphone, the Mira M-3 enables true single-handed operation. The new Metrohm Raman spectrometer meets the regulatory requirements of FDA CFR 21 Part 11 making it the preferred solution for fast, straightforward QC in the pharmaceutical industry.

Operating Procedures can be customised on the Mira M-3 to allow sampling flexibility. Routine users start their measurements at the push of a button to verify the identity of materials with a pass/fail result in a few seconds.

Dedicated sampling attachments such as a Vial Holder (for powders and liquids) and a Tablet Holder (for tablets and pills) are part of the Mira M-3 and can be used without any further laser protection (Laser Safety Class 1). Point-and-shoot attachments are also available for contact measurements through barriers (e.g., glass bottles).

The Mira M-3 is fully compliant with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 providing multilevel access control, audit trails, secure electronic records and other features to exceed regulatory requirements.
