Page 34 Getting out in the Garden.

I love this time of year, things are starting to warm up and you can start to adventure more outside into the garden. For me the garden always has a natural cycle and just as most people have the urge to have a spring clear in the house, the same applies to the garden.

I know that many people screw their noses up at this moment, but it’s really often not as bad as you may think. At the end of the day for those who don’t enjoy gardening too much just think of it as one of those chores where you just have to start. If you do this and enjoy the beautiful Spanish weather we get, you will always be done quicker than you think.

This is major pruning time, you can get deep into the plants in your garden and watch them bounce back into life, certain plants that have a more hard woody stem you may only want to prune within the foliage, this way the plant will regrow foliage and flowers and start to look very healthy. Softer stemmed plants particularly plants prone to frost attack (such as Hibiscus, Lantana, Ficus trees) you will find can take a hell of a beating back and they will simply grow back.

As we are suppliers and installers for artificial grass we often use it in a lot of our gardens as it really reduces maintenance and watering costs. This means most of our gardens only require an annual pruning

and as much as this can be a pretty big prune, all round the garden loves it, and carries on looking great and keeps its form.

Plants of the Month.

Again, I have a couple of options for you this month as the early bloomers get the year off to a bang. Two climbers that are a must if you have the right situation to grow is Wisteria Sinensis and Hardenbergia Violacea (Happy Wanderer). Both have spectacular flowers at this time of year, I always find the Wisteria works better if it can hang from a pergola or structure and the Hardenbergia is happy growing up a semi shade wall with vine eye support wires.
