Volunteers of The Original Charity Shop and Library, Jávea on a visit to the Red Cross

The Red Cross invited the volunteers to their headquarters in Jávea to say thank you for the recent donation of €5,000. They were given a tour of the premises and also a demonstration on how the ambulance service works

This was followed by a presentation of the new Red Cross Teleasistencia service. This is better known as a “panic button” system which brings security and peace of mind for users and their families. For further information about this service please see: www.cruzroja.es/teleasistencia. The volunteers were also treated to tapas and drinks and President Georgina Harvey was delighted to receive a gift as a token of their gratitude.

FOOD URGENTLY NEEDED

The Jávea Red Cross currently looks after 312 families in the area, providing them with basic food items. However, they are running low on stock and urgently need basics such as rice, pasta, oil, flour, tinned food and long life milk for the children.

Please look in your cupboards and if you have anything to donate to this cause bring it along to The Original Charity Shop on Avenida Fontana 14, Jávea, to the Library in Jávea Park or directly to the Red Cross headquarters. It may come as a surprise that there are still families out there in need of help, but this is the reality of our times. The situation simply has not improved for everyone, even if the authorities would have us believe otherwise. So please help the Red Cross to support those less fortunate than ourselves.

Ed’s comment: This is not unique to the Jávea area. If you are not in the Jávea area your local Red Cross would be happy to receive any donations and /or help with volunteering.
