Chamber support for National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week 2017 takes place this month, from 6-10 March. Co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship

Service, the week is designed to celebrate the positive impact apprenticeships and traineeships have on individuals, businesses and the economy. The tenth National Apprenticeship Week will bring

together employers and apprentices from across England to celebrate the success of apprenticeships over the past decade and will seek to encourage

even more people to choose apprenticeships as a fast-track to a great career. The Chamber is a renowned advocate of

apprenticeships. It understands the needs of businesses and this is why it has such a fantastic relationship with its apprenticeship employers. The Chamber’s extensive range of programmes

means it can match the ideal programme and candidate to your requirements, with 100% of employers stating they would recommend its services to other employers, while 99% of Chamber apprentices remain in employment*. Apprenticeships and Skills Minister Robert Halfon

said: “National Apprenticeship Week highlights the vital role apprenticeships and traineeships play in giving people from all backgrounds a ladder of opportunity. “Last year’s National Apprenticeship Week saw

some amazing achievements, but I want 2017 to be the best yet. I look forward to meeting apprentices and businesses and showcasing the great work they do.” Details of the Chamber’s National Apprenticeship

Week activities will be published in April’s edition of Business Network.

Youth employment in Nottingham invested in via D2N2

Work experience, education, training and support and skills for unemployed young people in Nottingham is to be given a boost. The ‘Supporting Nottingham’s

Young People into the Labour Market’ project will look to help young people in Nottingham aged 15-29 who are not in employment, education or training to re-engage with education and training and gain basic skills to help them become more employable and provide them with work experience and training opportunities. A total of £774,000 is on offer

from D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership through its allocation of European Social Fund (ESF) monies, a part of D2N2’s wider €250m in European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF). David Ralph, Chief Executive of

D2N2, said: “Skills lies at the heart of the D2N2 LEP’s Growth Strategy. “Helping people gain skills which

get them into work and then to develop knowledge which progresses their career is good for individuals, and the resulting pool of potential employees with the skills needed to plug gaps in their workforce is good for businesses.”
