2.7% predicted in 2017 and an indication from Prime Minister Theresa May at January’s World Economic Forum meeting of an eagerness to begin discussions on a post-Brexit trade agreement, now is an opportune moment for East Midlands companies to consider exporting to the UAE. While the UAE’s phenomenal

rate of growth was initially fuelled by a dependence on natural resources, the economy has undergone a conscious remodelling in recent years to become a global centre of commerce, finance and tourism, with non-oil sectors now accounting for 70% of GDP. As the UAE economy has

continued to expand, so too have exports of East Midlands goods to the market. Taking advantage of a number of free zones, an appreciation for ‘Brand Britain’ and increased accessibility, East Midlands exports of goods to the UAE amounted to £325m in 2015, an increase of eight per cent from the previous year. Opportunities for companies exist

in almost all sectors, fuelled by substantial investment in infrastructure ahead of Expo2020, a six-month ‘festival of ingenuity’
