If you want to be in Cardiff’s most fashionable district then Cathedral 73 is just the ticket. It’s on Cathedral Road bordering trendy Pontcanna and leafy Llandaff, yet within easy walking distance of the city centre. Surprisingly for a capital city, Cardiff is not that well-endowed with intimate boutique accommodation. This newcomer fills the gap, offering stylish, comfortable accommodation (including suites) that comes with a wealth of personal touches. It’s based at a tall, feature-filled Victorian townhouse that has been sympathetically restored with an eye to contemporary elegance and no-expense- spared high-end interior design – think chandeliers and cornices, then add urban chic and you’ll get the picture. The beds are either king or super-king sized and the superb bathrooms have every conceivable luxury, including bathrobes and deluxe toiletries.
In addition to rooms in the main house and extension there’s also the Old Coach House at the end of a beautiful courtyard that offers two-bedroomed self-contained accommodation with an open kitchen, dining and living space. Cathedral 73 is ‘beyond luxury’ says one of its first visitors. And it doesn’t stop there. Guests can also enjoy very special ‘extras’ like butler service, a personal chef and a classic Rolls-Royce. There’s also Tea at 73, a classy tearoom that serves healthy lunches, delicious afternoon teas and evening drinks/wine. Cathedral 73 is one of the capital’s most affluent addresses, the perfect base for a city break based on Cardiff’s thriving arts, shopping and sporting scene. What’s more, it’s just a short stroll through the park to splendid Cardiff Castle and the Principality Stadium, a sporting superstar in its own right.
