For once we’re lost for words… well, almost. Finding 250 to do justice to this extraordinary newcomer is a difficult task, so let’s create the mood board by doing it in snapshots. There’s the handcrafted wooden ash bath made by a boatbuilder… velvet armchairs fit for a boudoir… oak floors and Italian marble bathrooms, all with underfloor heating…. individual, personalised spas (more to come on these)… faultless, fabulous interior design that’s playful, inventive, inspiring… private widescreen cinemas… the UK’s largest all-glass roof that harvests solar energy… a natural rock outcrop in the entrance hall, with water trickling down into a pool… serene, sophisticated bedrooms with views of Snowdonia… bedrooms complete with every conceivable high-tech and indulgent luxury (heated robe warmers, waterproof TV remote control, computer-controlled lighting, etc, etc).

It’s safe to say that we’ve never seen anything quite like this before. Some context is perhaps needed here. What began life as a Victorian lodge has been reinvented – reborn, really – using space, glass, light and technology to give guests a remarkable experience infused with relaxation, wellbeing, discretion and luxury. There is no spa in the conventional sense (Coes Faen doesn’t do convention). What you have here are individual spas in each bedroom so that you can have your own private, personalised treatments (by prior arrangement) from fully qualified massage and complementary health specialists. As you’d expect, the food and wine (a mix of Tuscan and Welsh influences) are of the highest quality too, while the surroundings – beautiful woodland gardens with dreamy views of coast and country – further enhance Coes Faen’s romantic, restful personality.
