No, it’s not a farm. Far from it. This Ffarm is a ‘little castle’, a Grade II-listed Gothic Style manor house dating from 1706. Its striking façade is rich in ornamental architectural detail – you could spend hours poring over it – while within you’ll find gorgeous rooms fit for the king of this mini-castle. Warm, restful tones, luxurious furnishings and sparky features (chandeliers are much in evidence) combine to create a sense of harmony at this prestigious property, run by welcoming hosts with a reputation for personal service. You’ll want for nothing in terms of comfort or character. There’s a grand staircase, plush drawing room (with bar), beautifully appointed bedrooms and an elegant dining room (please pre-book for dinner). Ffarm is tucked away discretely in two acres of garden and woodland in the village of Betws-yn-Rhos, with easy access to the A55 and a host of North Wales attractions, including Victorian Llandudno and medieval Conwy.
Remember the unprepossessing seaside B&Bs of old? Well, now you can forget them. Fron Haul sets the standards for homely yet stylish B&Bs beside-the-sea. You can’t really get closer to Cardigan Bay. Most of Fron Haul’s rooms have amazing sea views – and picture windows that make the most of them. The location is spot-on too, in the charming little resort and sailing centre of Aberdyfi – it’s one of our favourites – backed by the mountains of Mid Wales. Your hosts Reeve and Susie Waldock have created a quietly luxurious place to stay, with contemporary rooms that have all the latest comforts and facilities, including big beds, large showers, goose feather pillows and widescreen TVs (but watching the sun going down over the bay is far better than EastEnders). So it’s fair to say that Fron Haul is not your typical B&B – they even serve you breakfast in bed.
