It has almost a thousand years of history to investigate, and yet the dedicated CADWGAN Building Preservation Trust has brought it kicking and screaming into the 21st century after a multi-million pound bricks and mortar restoration. Cardigan Castle provides its lucky guests with an immersive experience, and creates memories to cherish. During the painstaking 4 year rebuild archaeologists unearthed 9,500 timeless pieces that make the historical jigsaw come to life, and they can be seen in the Castle’s own exhibitions. Everyone has dreamt of staying in an ancient castle, and this one covers off everything you dreamt of, and more. Wales boasts hundreds of castles, but this one is unique in offering a range of differing styles of special places to stay, complete with turrets standing guard over the River Teifi! The luxurious Ty Castell is nestled inside

the ancient castle walls, close to the spectacular restored Regency gardens and away from the hustle and bustle of this busy market town. Period features are retained, and history oozes from every corner. The rooms are bang up to date, and decorated with restful tones, high end linen, sumptuous fabrics and an abundance of welsh slate sets it all off perfectly. They are peaceful, cosy and relaxing. The Coach House offers disabled and accessible luxury with a huge walk-in shower, a handy kitchenette and a suntrap outdoor seating area. Breakfast is served in the historically named 1176 Restaurant, a contemporary slate and floor-to-ceiling glass-fronted space overlooking the river and you can eat al fresco on the sun terrace. If you prefer a more self-sufficient experience check out the Castell’s lovely new self-catering in our sister guide Rare Hideaways.
