Sunday morning Craft Market in Xàbia (Jávea) - every week
As you stroll along the sea front towards the port of Xàbia (Valencian forJávea) on a Sunday morning, you will pass a small craft fair of between ten and fifteen stalls and every one displays only that which has been made by the person at the stall.
Obviously you can't hold a big craft market each and every week, but a few carefully selected stalls selling different articles each week, seemed a distinct possibility. And so these dedicated people turn up every Sunday morning at about 11 o'clock, and stay until lunch time at 2pm or so. They are taking turns so that every week the visitor can look at something different. From hand knitted shawls to leather handbags, from original jewellery to hand forged steel coat hangers or hand made felt bags - nothing imported, nothing from a factory, everything individually designed and made. Like visiting an art gallery without art gallery prices.
The fair is organised by Amata, the same association that organises the summer fair in the port of Xàbia. Everything on the stalls is made by the people on the stall - a guarantee that the visitor is buying an original. It also becomes possible to order a special
piece to suit that special person or situation, and pick it up the next Sunday or the Sunday after. In addition there might be one or two stalls with locally produced or ecological products.
So, every Sunday from 11am to 2pm, on the sea front at the end of the Avenida Jaime I in the port of Xàbia. If you want to know more, ring 639 979 678 (English spoken).
