Franciscan Shelter for Men at Palma de Gandia update “Centro de Acogida San Francisco de Asis, Pla Vernissa, 46724 Palma de Gandia, Valencia." CIF nº is G-96811971.
February brought the unexpected death of a long-term supporter, volunteer and member of the Saturday lunch team, “Our Anita”. This was how I referred to her, as did so many others it seemed when we gathered for her cremation. “Our Anita’s” family had the amazing presence of mind in what was a very difficult moment for them all, to collect money for the three charities Anita loved and worked for, one of these is the Shelter.
281€ was collected for the Shelter. Part of this has been spent on one weeks supplies for all the men to have a hot milky drink and a biscuit every night for 7 days. The hospice needs 22 litres of milk a day for the 70 drinks. This is what it looks like. Nesquik dissolves easily, so does Colacoa Turbo and when you are making 65-70 drinks late at night, lumps in cups can annoy
even the most patient Monk, so the extra Euros for each bag is worth it.
Thank you to the people who did respond to the sheets appeal last month. I did not get enough so the remainder of the 281€ is going towards buying new sheets because I have just been to the Shelter and this is really an urgent need now.
Cortados Cafe in Jávea is still raising/ collecting money to buy new sheets. If anyone has these warmer style single sheets to give away, would like to know more or can help in another way please contact me, Helen, by email
helen.king.s@
gmail.com or call 608 751 933.
