All welcome. We look forward to seeing you. Have Cactus, Will Travel

In 2004 Nigel Bentley loaded a large van with his precious collection of cacti and drove from England to his new home in Spain. Most of these had been grown in a large greenhouse in England but were planted in the garden in Spain, hoping that the Spanish climate would favour them. Some died, some survived and some thrived.

Last moth, Nigel entertained the Costa Blanca Gardeners’ Circle with an illustrated talk and explained why this had happened and what we can do to prevent this happening to our cacti and succulents.

We were told which cacti are suitable for the garden and which should be grown in pots and how to prepare the soil for them.

If you want to grow cacti and succulents successfully visit our website, costablancagardeners.weebly.com, to read Nigel’s essential information.

Next Meeting - Gardening in Drought Conditions

We have had no significant rain here for three years. If your garden is suffering, come along to our next meeting on Wednesday 7th December at 1.30pm for a prompt 2pm start, to hear Brian Bolger talk on “Gardening in Drought Conditions”.

We will have our usual Q&A session, raffle, newsletter, plus plant and fertilizer sales, refreshments with a special treat, home- made mince pies.

The competition this month is a Christmas arrangement,

using

natural materials, and not more than one candle.

As always, newcomers are very welcome to attend and we will be taking names for our annual meal in January.
