duffle up to my room. Check-in is friendly and efficient. And guess what? Ironically, I am given keys to the same abode as before. Well, hello again Room 422! Don’t you look welcoming!

The large suite is now refreshed, cozy and beautifully furnished. Its bath- room (bathrooms, actually – the room’s been substantially enlarged) offers modern conveniences and amenities. No more musty smell. Later, I’ll notice theWindsor Dining Room (the proper- ty’s main restaurant),while it still retains a lavishly-historic look and feel, the dining room’s luxuriously-colorful carpeting is now soundless underfoot.

Sure, the brass and wood festooned Tap Room that I remember from before still beckons me with a drink in a con- vivial setting, but this time around I also can grab a spirited cocktail in the new Library Lounge, which is just off

the lobby. The old library space has been exquisitely converted into a top- shelf drinking establishment - a very relaxing and stylish environment.

Groups of all sizes can enjoy Skytop’s event spaces both inside and out.Not surprisingly, the resort sees an average of four complete buyouts each year. The main conference venue, called the Evergreen Ballroom (named for its splendidly-coniferous view), is 4,128- square feet and can separate into three individual rooms.

An interior space, the Hemlock Ballroom, provides its own charm – part Roaring Twenties (maybe it’s those glittering chandeliers) and part state- of-the-art comfort and style.Meanwhile, the 3,000-square foot Laurel Room offers an interesting flare shaped design, allowing for good depth and the added touch of an outside patio

and lawn area. Other key points - the conference center has its own kitchen, a separate entrance and a parking lot.

Along with its myriad meeting and boardrooms, the Lodge excels at alfres- co functions. One look at its grandly sweeping lawns, outdoor porches, verandas; its formal gardens, and a lovely courtyard that’s like a scene out of Downton Abbey, the outdoor offer- ings here can really create that sky- topping, unparalleled event.

The Stream Side Lodge, well – its name says it all; a bedecked log cabin over- looking Skytop Lake – the perfect indoor/outside retreat for groups of 100-plus in which to meet, relax,or have a party.
