At CLUB F!T we are experts in helping persons who have had injuries recover safely and successfully and we help them to prevent further injury.
This month Female Focus has asked Yvonne Henry, who is one of the receptionists at CLUB F!T, to tell us about her tennis injuries and about how the specialised exercise programme created for her by CLUB F!T is ensuring that she will not experience injury in the future.
For any sportsperson, or indeed any normally active person who develops a strain or injury, safe and specific recuperation exercises are vital.
Yvonne has always been a keen amateur tennis player, and has been a familiar face on the local tennis circuit, being part of the senior league, and regularly playing in tournaments in Altea, La Sella, Moraira and L’Ancora and Los Pinos in Jávea.
When injury struck some years ago, Yvonne, now 62, was put out of action for over a year with a sustained case of tennis elbow. She has also suffered two bouts of shoulder tendonitis, each time putting her out of action for four months.
When faced with pain from overhead activities such as serving, hitting high top spins, forehands or overhead smashes, you simply can’t play on... rest and proper treatment are what’s needed, followed by a recuperation period involving specific exercises to strengthen the muscles and avoid any further injury.

And this is what Yvonne has experienced... she is now succeeding at building up the strength in her arms, shoulders, and in her upper body generally, and increasing the rotational core strength of her body to deal with the twists and turns that tennis players make.

And it’s working, Yvonne hasn’t suffered any injuries now for quite some time and generally feels stronger, fitter and can go onto the tennis court feeling confident that her body will not let her down.
