ning in 1955 and lasting for some 13 seasons. McMunn, dubbed The Silver Fox, would go on to become one of the Ottawa Valley’s most popular and respected performers, perhaps remembered best for his classic hits Reserve Me A Table, One More Country Song, and My Old Truck. The McMunn name remains familiar today on the Ottawa Valley scene with his sons Jamie and Jeff McMunn following in their father’s musical footsteps.
The same type of country genes were brought to the Ottawa Valley by North Bay, Ontario-born country singer Irwin Prescott (1932- 1977). After years of stardom on radio and TV in North Bay, Prescott relocated to Ottawa, where he would open and operate The Golden Rail club located on Montreal Road in Vanier (at the time Eastview). The Golden Rail be- came Ottawa’s answer to the genuine honky tonks of Texas. Initially. the club’s entertainment was headlined by Irwin Prescott & His Country Diggers band, which would include his sons Ron and Randall Prescott, fronting for various guest artists; but as fan interest grew in country music, Irwin Prescott soon began booking nationally acclaimed tour- ing acts to perform at the club. Irwin Prescott, who was also a popular recording artist himself with hits like Go Rattler Go, The Auctioneer and Cry Cry Darling; passed away at the young age of 45. His legacy how-

ever is carried on musically through his sons; Randall in particular, who has gone on to national fame as an award-winning producer, songwriter and musician and. joining his wife, Tracey Brown, as a member of the group Family Brown and its subse- quent configurations.
