101st ABU Administrative Council Meeting, Fiji


Acting President expressed his solidarity with Fiji after cyclone Winston and reiterated ABU’s commitment to fully support members of the Pacific

he Administrative Council Meeting (ACM) was held in Nadi, Fiji on 20 May 2016 under the chairmanship of Mr Hikaru Doumoto, Acting President of the ABU.


It approved the Secretary General’s Report for the Union’s Activities since the 100th ACM in Istanbul - budget and financial report. It also backed the recommendations of the Planning and Strategy Group to shorten the balloting period from 5 to 4 days for the re-election of AC members and to bring the duration of the General Assembly and Associated Meetings from seven and a half days to 6 days.


The AC also gave its approval for amending the staff regulations, changing the name of the Copyright Committee to ABU Intellectual Property and Legal Committee and acquiring International Organisation status for the ABU. It also agreed to implement the ABU TV Song Contest for a one year trial and then assess and evaluate whether to continue or not and limiting the presentation of the ABU Prizes to the content related awards and ask the other awards to be moved to appropriate platforms.


The meeting was co-hosted by two ABU members - the public service broadcaster, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, and the main commercial channel, Fiji TV. From the 17 organisations constituting the AC, only three were not present, which shows the commitment and responsibility felt by the ABU board members to contribute to the development of the Union.


The Fiji Attorney General and Minister for Finance, Public Enterprises, Public Service and Communications, Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum delivered the welcoming address. He briefed
