IEEE Milestones for NHK-Japan
Based in the United States, the IEEE is the world’s largest engineering body with 430,000 members in more than 160 countries in the fields of electrical, electronic, computer and telecommunications engineering.
26 Japanese technologies received IEEE Milestones up until last year. This includes NHK’s R&D who was behind the 2011 award for the First Direct Broadcast Satellite Service for transmitting broadcasts straight to homes. The latest awards bring NHK’s IEEE Milestones to three.

Dr Abdolali Ali Askari is the new President of IRIB-Iran
he newly-appointed President of IRIB, Dr Abdolali Ali Askari is an experienced and competent
manager due to his rich managerial, media, cultural and technical background.
He has held other managerial positions in the past including as a member of the High Council for Cultural Revolution, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the Head of the Culture and Research Foundation for Occidental Studies, Dean of IRIB Faculty, IRIB Vice-President for Education as well as IRIB Vice- President for Development and Media Technology.
Dr Ali Askari holds a Ph.D in the field of industrial engineering specialising in systems and productivity from Iran University of Science and Technology. He is a member of the National Center for Cyberspace and one of the architects of Iran’s High Council for Cyberspace.

He was tasked by the then president of the Islamic Republic of Iran to establish Refah chain stores in 1994 due to his executive background at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the Center for Iran and International Tourism.
He is considered to be the father of Iran’s digital television because he was the main founder of the accelerating trend of converting the IRIB analogue system to digital.
Dr Ali Askari received the 2010 ABU Broadcast Engineering Excellence award in Tokyo.
