The ABU Technical Bureau mid-year meeting was held from 12-13 April 2016 in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of 15 bureau members.


Mr Masakazu Iwaki, the Chairman of the Technical Committee (TC) and Technical Bureau (TB) of the ABU chaired the meeting. He urged the bureau meeting to discuss strategic issues and to develop a plan that will be


ABU Members discussed DTT Broadcasting at AMS 2016

he ABU participated in the second Pre-summit Regional Workshop on Enabling & Enhancing the DTT Broadcasting Experiences which was held in


conjunction with the Asia Media Summit 2016 from 23-26 May in Incheon, South Korea.


The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Asia- Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Participants reviewed, discussed and shared experiences on digitalisation


taking place especially in ASEAN and SAARC countries. Korea Communications Agency, South Korea presented its Analogue Switch Off planning and implementation programme during the workshop.


ABU members from Brunei, Thailand, India, Laos and Cambodia together with ITU experts shared their experiences with the participants, addressing the issues, challenges and possible solutions in carrying out the transition to digital transmission.

The training and services topic study was revised to broaden its scope with the title Capacity Building which will focus on health & safety, modern broadcast resource management, automation, IT in broadcasting and beyond SD.


Dr Javad Mottaghi, the Secretary- General of ABU, in his welcoming speech commended the work carried out by the TB and TC. He said that


the ABU is committed to carrying out more technical advisory services (TAS) as requested by ABU members. Dr Mottaghi also emphasised the need for capacity building and bridging the digital divide in our APAC region.


The ABU Director of Technology & Innovation, Dr Amal Punchihewa presented a brief report on the activities that were carried out since the previous meeting in Istanbul and the activities that are planned for the next six months.
