ABU’s Children’s Drama Co-production: 12th and 13th Series Updates
As for Miss Seulyena Lee from Korea’s EBS, she found the story idea discussion session to be interesting. “Even though all the participating producers were from different backgrounds and used different languages, we did our best to understand each other’s storylines and shared detailed advice. And I found one common thing among us. All of us were trying to respect the “mind” of child audiences”, she added.

With “Mental Growth” as a common theme, producers brought various drama stories focusing on issues such as friendship, bullying and children’s diet.
“I am so happy with the 12th series, some of our works are using cutting edge technologies like 3D-CG, some of them with such excellent stories for children” said Mr Takahashi, Executive Producer, adding that many producers who join this co-production have been making significant progress in recent years, which shows the success of this long lasting project.
In this meeting, the “Producers’ Choice” award was also introduced for the first time. Taking the form of a popularity vote among the participating producers, this award recognizes the producer deemed to have produced the best drama in this meeting.
The first “Producers’ Choice” award went to a drama from IRIB-Iran, “My Decisions”, with its cinema-like pictures as well as its engaging and unpredictable storyline.
The participating producers presented their ideas for the upcoming 13th series and further discussed how to develop them during the remaining days of the meeting. The next meeting will be held in Bangkok, hosted by Thai-PBS, in July 2016.
