PK Scottish Horseshoe sets new milestone for British Endurance
In a ‘first’ for British Endurance Riding, the PK Scottish Horseshoe produced two gold, one silver and three bronze horseshoes winners. Rivalling the famous French endurance event ‘160km of Forac’ The Scottish Horseshoe covered the stunning ‘Trail of the 7 Lochs’ including a climb of 13,200 feet and covering over 186km. In what was a new milestone for British endurance riding, for the first time ever, a course of 186 km to be ridden over two days was offered by the South Loch Ness Access Group in a majestic landscape. Nine horses and riders started the challenge and at the end of the two days, three bronze (93 km) and one silver (133km) awards were given out, with the two gold awards (186 km) achieved by Candy
Book review The Crystal System
Much of this book asks you, the rider – and the most regular trainer – of your horse, to look ‘inwards’ and assess your own physical capabilities and ambitions, leading you to a new realisation of what you can potentially achieve.
The subject is dressage and author Patricia Pitt explains in simple yet intuitive terms, the ‘mechanics’ of many quite basic, but frequently much misunderstood terms, like the half-halt, giving a step-by- step insight into the meaning of much of the vocabulary used to discuss the training of a horse.
There are reminders of the key considerations at every stage of the training pathway and practical detail about how to teach your horse what you expect of him and how to progress to the next steps in the right time frame. Clever drawings bring Crystal, the horse, to life and the cartoon approach emphasises

the partnership you should strive to build with your own horse.
Solving problems is part of ‘the journey’ in The Crystal System and the approach is refreshing, practical and down to earth. It explains the underlying reasons why things can go wrong, why your horse may not be ready to offer what you are asking, gives you the knowledge to identify the relevant issue and then work towards a lasting solution.
It is certainly a different approach to a much- discussed objective and because of that, it will appeal to a wide readership. It may not be for everyone, but there is something in this book for almost everyone and for many aspiring dressage riders, it offers a gateway to a new level of knowledge and understanding.
Definitely worth reading a copy from cover to cover.
