Purser and the winning 128cm home-produced Flecknoe Fandango. This is their first season and the 9-year-old part bred Arab, by Stinesdale Matador, is new to the show ring, having previously enjoyed a dressage career.


Standing Reserve Show Pony was the winning 148cm Brindlebrook Future Illusion, ridden by Louise Walby.


Champion ridden hunter, the lightweight winner Tredragon, ridden by Gilly McCowan stood Champion at Fife earlier this season and the 8-year-old is being aimed at more major shows and hoping to emulate his success at Blair Castle, where he was the 2015 Champion.


Northumberland County always attracts a strong entry of Native ponies and Chris Grant and his prolific winning Highland mare Dunedin Rhiona stood Open M&M Champion having won their open large breeds class. They were also awarded the NPS Silver Medal. A novice in 2015, Dunedin Rhiona won the Picton final at Malvern and stood Supreme Ridden at the Highland Pony Breed show, also winning the NPS Silver Medal final at Blair Castle.

No Shenanigans, winners of the Native/Cob/Traditional Ridden Horse qualifier. Louise has owned the 8-year-old for 4 years and they secured a Restricted Championship at the CHAPS Championships last season, also enjoying hacking and some dressage competitions.

Cob/Traditional Open In-hand qualifier was Brian Gibson and The Mane Man, a former stallion gelded only last October. Brian’s partner Jackie added to the day’s success with a second place in the lightweight hunter with Wallenstein, having won the ridden hunter Championship in 2015.


The elegance of the side saddle classes attract good numbers of spectators and it was testimony to the growing popularity of riding side saddle that some competitors chose to ride side saddle in other classes including Riding Club Horse winners Frances Scott and Vancouver Skye, who were taking this honour for the third year in
