wife Darlene and I have raised. As I have mentioned before, my kids are very active in sports. My daughter Abigail, who is 11 and starting the 6th grade this year, is very active in the Apopka Litle League Soſtball. My son Jack, who is 10 and starting 5th grade this year, participates in the North Orlando Patriots Baseball Travel Team. Both organizations have many things in common: great coaches, well thought out teaching plans and competitive play. However, both organizations do something different that, as a parent, I have come to appreciate. Abi’s soſtball league has conditioning sessions for all registered players for several weeks before the season begins. Jack’s travel team mandates 7 weeks arm rest during the summer and 8 weeks during the winter. Both policies may seem to be polar opposites, however, both have been implemented to protect the children. Abi’s conditioning teaches her the basics and allows her and her soſtball friends to hone skills and strengthen muscles to avoid injuries during the season. Te mandatory breaks allow Jack and

his baseball buddies to rest their arms, eliminate overuse, and allow their young muscles and tendons to heal and grow properly. I believe this is so important today, especially with parents pushing their kids to play in leagues, on multiple travel ball teams and other expositions. Te overuse with today’s youth has led to strained muscles, tendons, and ligaments and has caused many separated shoulders and Tommy John surgeries. As I write this, I wonder how many

colleagues in the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association might need some conditioning and rest as Abi and Jack have been blessed with. Te rest is easy. Take vacations, needed breaks and allow your mind to decompress. You will be amazed with how you will come back with a refreshed mind, atitude and outlook that will allow
