Lea Burke, Choice Screening
Welcome to DATIA! When and why did you decide to join DATIA? Tanks! I was excited when Choice Screening joined DATIA just earlier this year. As a former probation supervisor, I have a genuine appreciation for the value of drug and alcohol testing to maintain safety in the workplace. A lot of our defendants had court-ordered requirements to stay clean and maintain gainful employment. At Choice Screening, located in
I’ve mentioned our relationship with our clients—they rely on us! We feel our DATIA membership will help strengthen our partnerships even more.
Englewood, CO, we’ve been helping employers conduct drug and alcohol screening for years. We’re known for experience and dedication and wanted to qualify it with something equally reputable and recognized. Aſter looking into various memberships, we immediately recognized how a DATIA membership could benefit our clients and ourselves! Now, we have an excellent and reliable resource as well as a basis for our education, commitment and experience. We understand industries that are heavily regulated, constantly scrutinized and riddled with litigation—it’s where we live and breathe! As a member, we’re more efficient at keeping up with drug and alcohol testing changes. It’s good for us and it’s good for the clients who depend on us!
What has been your favorite membership benefit since joining? Te publications and education resources! We have a great relationship with our clients and they rely on us to help them navigate all things background screening, including drug and alcohol testing. It’s great to have a resource to not only further our internal education, but to also see how an association like DATIA will address issues most impactful to our business partners. For example, the landscape of drug and
alcohol testing has seen a dramatic shiſt with legalized medicinal and recreational

marijuana. We know first hand since we are located in Colorado. Our clients are racing to figure out how to effectively manage their drug-free workplace. DATIA is another resource for us to beter communicate this shiſt so we can give reliable advice and identify when it’s time for an employer to discuss further details with their legal counsel.
What does your company hope to gain from this membership? I’ve mentioned our relationship with our clients—they rely on us! We feel our DATIA membership will help strengthen our partnerships even more. Lots of background screening companies can help employers conduct drug and alcohol testing as part of their pre-employment and ongoing employment process, but not all companies care about geting it right. Lots of background screening companies can join DATIA, but not all are active members like Choice Screening. DATIA membership helps us differentiate ourselves through commitment and credibility.
What do you wish other people knew about your company that they may not know? Choice Screening has created our own proprietary background screening soſtware completely in-house—no licensing, no outsourcing. Tere are a lot of soſtware applications out there that background screeners use. Some are beter than others, but we wanted something that literally and unequivocally catered to our needs and those of our clients. We have some incredible talent here and figured, why not build our own? As a result, Choice Screening’s technology is 100 percent unique, giving us the latitude and flexibility we wanted to best serve our clients.
