AROUND KINGSWEAR Around Kingswear NEWS FROM THE SUNNY SIDE
PORTA-FLOW! as you may see from the very strange picture of
the porta-loo on higher Contour Road. the cubicle is considerably less vertical than it ought to be, horizontal in fact. Recent stormy weather caused the offending article to be blown over, unfortunately releasing its less than savoury contents (jokes and puns on this to By the Dart...... in brown paper envelopes,
by Mike Trevorrow ‘Lang may yer lum reek’, as they don’t say in Cornwall!
KINGSWEAR REGATTA 2015 since 2006, when Kingswear Regatta was refloated after a gap of over 100 years, more than £28000 has been raised for local charities. This summer the Regatta will take place on saturday July 25th with the popular family fete on sunday July 26th. This year, as well as raising money for Kingswear
Rowing Club, the main beneficiary will be Rowcroft hospice, which will receive the profits from the duck race. Donations will also be made to Froward Point, the Playground appeal and training for the use of the defibrillator. Please support this lovely village event by saving the dates in your diary. We would also be very grateful for offers of help on the day and for donations of raffle prizes. Contact Jan on 752928 for more information. We have greatly enjoyed the parade of vintage or classic cars which is organised on Regatta Saturday; sadly since last year several cars have ‘disappeared’ from the
and puns on that last bit likewise) all along Higher Contour Road. We understand that this is the second time that this has happened so the workmen are going to have to chain-down their cubicle if it is not to become a considerable inconvenience. (I’m sorry but puns just keep popping-out in a case like this)
more seriously the resulting mess is a great health hazard and an extremely unpleasant experience for Paul and sue smith who live opposite. a parish councillor is to pursue the matter urgently.
GOOD NEWS happily the job for which the offending porta-loo is
being employed is now almost complete; the bulging wall which was in danger of collapsing on to Wood Lane is now re-built and the water leak behind it satisfactorily repaired. Wood Lane residents will be happy about this as the road is now fully open; some lane closures were needed in the demolishing and re-building of the wall, however people on Wood Lane have stressed that the builders have been most co-operative in letting people through when necessary, and reinstating passage at night-time.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2-4 Julia Clayton has asked me to let you know that the
very popular 2-4 Club has just celebrated its second birthday with a meal at The ship on February 2nd. all enjoyed a good meal and a very convivial evening. Our community thanks are very much due to the ladies who have worked hard to set-up and run the club. Its present popularity is a testament to that hard work.
village because of owners selling or moving, so if you have a lovely car sitting in your garage or wherever which you think people may enjoy please do us all a favour by bringing it down to the Creek on saturday 25th by 9:30 am. It will be much appreciated. If you are going to do this please contact Paul Compton on 752968 as he is co-ordinating the cars.
THANKS may I offer my thanks to the nice By the Dart people
who put this amazing publication together for us all for their efforts on my behalf in the last edition. I was away travelling and delighted to see the Around Kingswear page still there when I returned. I would also like to mention to Kingswear and area people who wish to put items in the page to get in touch at least three weeks before the magazine appears so that you are not disappointed in your article failing to appear. Thank you.
