fter a busier than expected first quarter of 2015, april has seen a general slowing of activity in the

most economic factors showing a steady improvement in the market. a slight concern for us here in Dartmouth is the potential for heavy property taxes to be introduced in London where a number of our buyers originate. some form of mansion tax is in the manifestos of both Labour and the Liberal Democrats. We have just enjoyed a superb Easter period with

plenty of people visiting the town and excellent weather generally. easter is usually a good show case for Dart- mouth and many potential buyers come back after a happy holiday to purchase a property as either a holiday retreat, investment, or indeed many people make the move to the area.

For our local and young buyers, mortgages are now about as cheap as they have ever been with some excel- lent fixed rates launched recently. Findings in February show the demand for property was up and first time buyers account for just under a third of house sales. according to the national association of estate agents’

February housing market report, 30% of house sales in February were made to those getting that first foot on the property ladder. This is the highest level since Sep- tember 2014 and the only time the proportion has been higher than 30% since records were first kept in 2009. The report states that it is clear from the findings that

things are starting to ease for first time buyers which could be down to more accessible funding especially following December’s stamp Duty reforms. The Govern- ment help to Buy scheme is also proving a useful tool for first time buyers.
