SALCOMBE TOWN REGATTA 1ST – 8TH AUGUST Regatta Week transforms Salcombe bringing a carnival atmo- sphere with fun things to do and watch on and off the water. With sailing events, air displays, processions and fireworks, parachuting teddies and fancy dress competitions and even a sandcastle competition for the kids (and the kids at heart). For a whole week events are themed on or around the town’s relationship with the sea and there is always something for everyone to enjoy.


DARTMOUTH SHAKESPEARE WEEK 4TH – 8TH AUGUST The Inn Theatre Company presents William Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor”. As usual, it takes place in the open air at Dartmouth Castle (and in St Petrox Church if wet). The play is a wonderfully anarchic comedy – the company have set it in the 1950s. DITTISHAM REGATTA 8TH AUGUST Founded in 1983, all the fun takes place from the Quay – rowing races, crabbing competitions, tug of war, music, food and much more.


THE SUPER WEEKEND TORBAY 8TH & 9TH AUGUST Now in it’s third year - The Super Weekend is the South West’s Premier Supercar Showcase with plenty to see in the Super- Bike and Boat department. TOTNES CARNIVAL 10TH – 16 TH AUGUST Totnes Carnival features traditional events throughout the week – children’s fancy dress, 5-A Side football and the chal- lenging but fun ‘Odd Object Competition’. Grand Carnival Procession on Saturday 15th August, starting at 6pm.


PLYMOUTH FIREWORK CHAMPIONSHIPS 18TH – 19 TH AUGUST Started in 1997 this annual competition allows professional display companies to demonstrate their skills. Plymouth became the favoured location providing a natural amphithe- atre where large scale pyrotechnics can be used safely and watched from a variety of points around the harbour and Sound. The Championships have grown hugely and are now recognised as the premier annual display in the UK, attracting tens of thousands to the city. www.britishfireworks.co.uk


PAIGNTON REGATTA 9TH – 16 TH AUGUST Paignton Regatta is a good old- fashioned week of traditional seaside fun, mainly taking place on and around Paignton Green. To mark the 168th year of Paignton Regatta there is a whole host of events happening on Paignton Sea Front. Fireworks on the 11th.


TORBAY ROYAL REGATTA 22ND – 26TH AUGUST This regatta first took place in 1813. A host of events now includes sailing events, rowing championships, funfairs, fireworks, water ski display and a fly past from the Red Arrows. www.torbayroyalregatta.co.uk


DARTMOUTH ROYAL REGATTA 27TH – 29TH AUGUST Dartmouth’s premier event – more information in the next issue of By The Dart and on the official regatta website - www.dartmouthregatta.co.uk. Rowing and sailing events, the Red Arrows, air displays, the Regatta Ball, the famous fire- works, competitions, tug of war; the list of activities is endless.


KINGSBRIDGE SHOW 5TH SEPTEMBER Celebrating its 134th year at Borough Farm, last year’s show attracted nearly 10,000 visitors. A fantastic day out for all the family offering classes in Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Homecraft, Young Farmers, Horticulture, Floral Art and Domestic pets. In addition to this there are over 100 Trade Stands, 70 Craft stands, 20 local food and drinks stands, Kingsbridge Children’s Youth Market, Children’s Pets Corner, Donkey rides, Vintage and Modern Tractors, Live Folk Style Music, a licensed bar and a wide range of main ring attractions. FISHSTOCK BRIXHAM 13TH SEPTEMBER Fishstock Brixham is a celebration of local seafood, food, drink, music and the arts. It was conceived as a fund-raising event in 2007 by an enthusiastic group of people who are passionate about the Fishermen’s Mission and its good works in Brixham.
