GRAEME PHARMACY GROUP twice as big. Perception really is key.
“We had a good pharmacy before, but I think it is spectacular now,” says Kenny.
The outcome clearly addresses a need evident prior to the relocation commencing. This was to face down the challenge of a neighbouring pharmacy chain operating on the same stretch of Main Street, whilst attracting extra business through the occupation of a position closer to the local GP practice.
“Our new pharmacy gives us a definite edge. It is outstanding, stunning and very cleverly designed,” Kenny adds. “It certainly impresses with its very clean, tidy and uncluttered look together with a feeling of space. The lighting scheme and the amount of daylight coming in make a huge difference too. People like to shop in nice places with a nice environment, so we have provided that for them.”
The approach taken by Dollar Rae was to focus on the performance of the business and the experiences customers have while in the pharmacy.
The new shop features a modern, stylish shop-front. Tile panel cladding used to cover up the original granite façade reinforces the powerful impact of the building. A series of three windows and the glass door main entrance intensifies the strong impression it makes on passers-by, giving them a number of views of the brilliantly-illuminated pharmacy interior.
The shop also boasts a distinctive new visual identity, an inviting and soothing interior environment, a waiting area with bench seating, dramatic merchandise presentation, a visually-appealing décor of raspberry and aqua shades, an expansive, open- plan dispensary, and new lighting technology.
Automatic double sliding doors bring customers into the gleaming, beautifully-integrated shop and straight to the medicine counter. The white counter is more akin to a reception desk and free of the usual merchandise displayed along the front.
The interior benefits immensely from the installation of the specialist lighting system incorporating recessed LED illumination and the light- coloured conglomerate granite tile flooring.
SCOTTISH PHARMACIST - 37
Almost imperceptibly, the LED lights change every few seconds to a different colour - a soft-hued colour. This feature helps to draw the eye to the dispensary area and the units displaying P-only medicines positioned behind the medicine counter. On the perimeter, meanwhile, each merchandise category, including upmarket skincare products such as Arran Aromatics, offers a distinctive setting created by back-illuminated glass shelving.
As peak performance is Kenny’s mantra for running his pharmacies, efficient functionality is the key to the design of the modern, well-equipped dispensary. It has a four-bay vertical drug drawer storage system.
Built into the Dollar Rae design is a well-appointed and fully-enclosed consultation room, located to one side of the medicine counter. Professional, patient-focused services on offer from Pharmacist Stephen O’Shea include Medicines Use Review (MUR), homeopathy, methadone administration, needle exchange, smoking cessation, EHC, travel advice, and palliative care.
The turnkey fit-out also involved
Dollar Rae in providing solutions for gaining building control and planning approvals as well as a number of technical problems.
The Graeme Pharmacy chain has two other outlets at Biggar in South Lanarkshire and at Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire. •
