pharmacy business development

FERGAL COFFEY Wemyss and Kirknewton Pharmacies

The key challenges faced by this pharmacy business were considerable in that their aim was to establish a community pharmacy as a start-up business. Despite the challenges face however, the team were keen to, and actively engaged the community as much as possible and helped improve health promotion, supporting skills and training and employment within them. The team have focussed on delivering core pharmacy services to areas where previously there had been none. On a daily basis they provide patients with an excellent pharmaceutical service that otherwise they would have had to travel out of their neighbourhood to access. The team here are testament to the positive impact that pharmacy can have in areas where there is a need to increase access to pharmaceutical services.

Willow Health Care T/A Callendar Pharmacy Since buying an existing contract from Tesco in Falkirk 4 years ago and relocating it to new premises in July 2010 the business has seen double digit growth each year to point where their premises were inadequate for the level of business they were doing, effectively also stopping the team from providing new services they wished to introduce. In January 2014 they made the decision that the only way to achieve future goals was to relocate to larger premises. The whole project has transformed their business. Much effort and investment has been put into the existing business and the team have ‘surpassed our own expectations’ in what they set out to achieve when deciding to relocate some twelve months ago.

SIOBHAN THOMSON

Dickson Chemist, Glasgow Siobhan Thomson took over the Dickson Chemist as Pharmacy Manager facing considerable challenges in modernising the available pharmacy services, such as implementing new training schemes, in order to help take the business forward. One of the key challenges was enhancing and improving staff knowledge and education whilst the main objectives were to bring the business back into the modern era, with all aspects of the new contract being supported and backed up by support staff. Siobhan helped forge the way forward for modernising the staff support unit of independent pharmacies to make their business fit for the future. The pharmacy business is now sitting with capacity to take on new business, with space additional stock, fewer overheads, better trained staff and higher service levels.
