Co-operative bids farewell to the High Street

At the helm of this change is Well CEO John Nuttall. Bursting with confidence about the changes this new brand will bring to community pharmacy, he speaks to Scottish Pharmacist about their plans for the future, and what challenges these may bring to Scottish pharmacy.
The sale price of the Co-operative Pharmacy Group was agreed at an estimated £620 million with the
transaction completed in October, 2014, following the fulfilment of a number of required steps to separate the Pharmacy business from The Co- operative.
Re-branding and recognition
Explaining the driving force behind the re-brand, John tells us that recognition for customers and smooth transitions for staff, were key elements in their strategic planning.
“The pharmacy business was bought
by the Bestway Group for £620million last year. As a result, we needed to change the name of the business to something that would be recognisable on the high street, and would resonate with consumers,” he told us. “Following extensive research and focus groups with customers, colleagues and suppliers, we chose the name Well.
