2015 will undoubtedly present new challenges for contractors but I am confident that the pharmacy network can deliver for our patients. Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) will continue to deliver support and representation, under the direction of the CPS Board, to the best of our ability in the coming year. For CPS the focus turns to the negotiations for 15/16 funding package. The NHS is under increasing financial pressure with an aging population profile and ever increasing demands on services. This backdrop will make for testing negotiations with pharmacy specific factors such as Prescription for Excellence (PfE) and increasing prescription volumes.

24 Scottish Pharmacist Awards Finalists

On PfE, the organisation has received their first invitations onto various working groups. This is to be welcomed and the CPS Board will ensure that the representation contributes positively and with the needs of our members firmly in mind. The coming year will hopefully bring greater clarity to the role of the community pharmacy workforce in meeting the aims and aspirations of PfE.

Scottish Government (SG) has recently extended the Gluten Free Foods Scheme for another six months giving time for an adequate review of the service. A questionnaire will be circulated to pharmacies, GPs and patients which CPS would encourage participation in. This will allow a comprehensive review and all views to be taken into account. Feedback in the office has been relatively

positive about the service however there are themes which are regularly raised such as electronic infrastructure. CPS is in constant dialogue with SG and PSD on the issues raised by members.

Finally the first Saturday in March sees the annual Scottish Pharmacist Ball and Awards in Edinburgh celebrating all that is great about the profession. More details can be found about the event in this publication but I would encourage everyone to consider booking tickets and coming along. Celebrating success or achievement is often something that our profession does not do enough, and hopefully will encourage everyone to consider their individual and/or team pharmacy success and shout about it through an application for one of the categories for next year.

All the best for 2015 to everyone involved in pharmaceutical care delivery; keep up the good work helping patients day in, day out. Your contribution in the frontline is the best advocacy tool we have to make a case for our profession.
