Community PharmaCy team of the year
MCCONNELL PHARMACY, NEWMILNS The pharmacy team at McConnell Pharmacy, Newmilns is a small group who work and live locally, and know and are known extensively by the customers. The team have worked together for 14years and the pharmacy is a hub of the community, for a friendly chat and/or support. The team have been involved in the ‘Know your numbers campaign’ encouraging the community to drop in to have blood pressure checks, and with the support of the local GP practice patients were referred for further investigation where necessary. The numbers who enrolled in the Keep Well programme were among the best in the Health Board area because the team work together to identify and recruit suitable participants. The team decided to use their shared passion for walking to raise funds for charities which have particular relevance to the community. Allison and the team have successfully raised almost £10,000 over three years.
LLOYDSPHARMACY, BELLSHILL
The pharmacy team here work closely together on many aspects due to the busy nature of the store. They do a vast number of items per month and have a great deal of CMS patients, but the team always ensures that patients are managing and benefitting from their medicines properly. They prepare a number of dosette boxes for patients in the community and offer a daily delivery service for those who cannot manage to visit the pharmacy. The team communicate effectively with each other to ensure patient’s needs are met, and are in daily contact with the local GPs at the Medical Centre attached to them. This is of huge benefit for the patients as the GPs trust the pharmacy team when they recommend they see someone urgently or consider reviewing patient’s medications for any given reason.
THE OPERATIONS TEAM
DAVIDSONS CHEMIST, BLAIRGOWRIE The Operations Team play a pivotal role with the Davidsons Chemists Group; being responsible for ensuring that the company runs like a well-oiled machine and for ensuring that the company improves its profitability. Although the Operations Team itself is a new development within the company, the staff within it have been working for Davidsons for a number of years with a combined service of 66 years. The team listen to each other and communicate effectively, support each other as well as providing support to their branches and individual members of staff and work quickly and efficiently to resolve any issues that are highlighted. Although the team are not providing direct patient care, they have been instrumental in ensuring their pharmacies provide high quality standards of care, and continue to proactively review operations for continual improvements to their services.
