PORT SUNLIGHT 10K/5K/1K - SUNDAY 1 MARCH THE BIG EVENTS Village People
There’s a new date on the calendar for one of the North West’s most picturesque village events, the Port Sunlight 10K ...
THE NORMALLY tranquil setting of Wirral’s world renowned model village is transformed into a lively hub of excitement each year for the Port Sunlight 10K/5K/1K. Since its incep- tion in 2012, the race has grown in popular- ity with the addition of a 5K and a 1K Fun Run. Those who can’t wait to take part again are in luck as the 2015 event will be held on 1 March, two months earlier than in previous years.
BTR Liverpool organises the event in conjunction with the Port Sunlight Museum & Garden Village (PSM&GV), who this year combined the best parts of the annual Port Sunlight Village Festival with the running event to celebrate the village’s 125th anniversary.
Run over a two-lap course, the 5K runners are first up to race the village roads, followed by the 10K race. With the children’s 1K fol- lowing the main 10K event, the Port Sunlight
races provide a great opportunity to get the whole family involved. The criss-cross shape of the course means participants are never far away from the start/finish line where they can expect enthusiastic support from the locals who come out in droves.
Nobody is more pleased with the increasing popularity of the event than BTR Liverpool race director Alan Rothwell: “Port Sunlight Village provides one of the most picturesque backdrops to a race event anywhere in the UK, and we’ve had excellent feedback on the much improved course. Race entries notably increased this year across all distances, with the 5K entries doubling, which is testament to how much people enjoy running in the village.” Around 2,000 competitors took part in this
year’s event and with the revised date an even bigger turnout is expected in 2015. So why not take the family down and get some Sunlight into your life!
