LIVERPOOL / WIRRAL Keep On Running
2014 wasn’t without controversy but extended community involvement was the key reason for another year of achievement. BTR Liverpool’s Alan Rothwell tells us more ...

IT’S A FUNNY old game. Not football where I’ve been known to offer the occasional word of modest encouragement to my team of preference. Not running - my greatest love (you know what I mean Yvonne!). No, the humour and irony is saved for the biggest game of all - life. Well 2014 was another one of those years - highs and lows. The highs were memorable though and worth reflecting upon.
Half Keeps Getting Better EVERY YEAR after the Liverpool Half I think, we’re never going to top that. Each year we pull another rabbit out of the hat. And in 2014 it was special - Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers was our official starter and presented the trophies and we again had a big international contingent in the field with over 21 overseas countries represented. And now Liverpool is part of the prestigious Vitality half marathon series so expect a bigger and better event in 2015.

Summer Of Love THE TOUR of Merseyside - an intense, six events across seven days - is low-key in terms of numbers but high drama in terms of the personal effort that goes into completing the 52-mile challenge. The word the participants use about the Tour is camaraderie and that sums it up perfectly. Read about Lee Lloyd’s poignant story on Pages 14 & 15 in this edition of Born To Run magazine.
The Running Oscars OCTOBER SAW an idea, that the recently formed Running Unites Network (RUN) group had originated, come to fruition. And in some style too with over 130 of the leading club officials and coaches, group leaders and event organisers coming together at The Richmond Hotel Liverpool for the Merseyside Running Community Awards. It was a smashing night and great to see so many of the people who make running in the region special getting the recognition they so richly deserved. Again we highlight the award winners later in the magazine.
