SANTA DASH SUNDAY 6 DECEMBER THE BIG EVENTS Claus Backs Title Santa Dash
2014 saw the return of the coveted World’s Biggest Santa Dash title to Liverpool. We’re not letting that go in 2015.
THERE WAS double cause for celebration at the 2014 BTR Liverpool Santa Dash, with the event marking its 10th anniversary and also reclaiming the world title honours from Las Vegas. A whopping 8,500 Santas took to the streets of the city in challenging conditions for Liverpool’s biggest annual festive spectacle. Starting at the Pier Head – a UNESCO
World Heritage Site - on the city’s world famous waterfront, the 5K took the Santas through the city centre, before finishing outside Liverpool Town Hall. At the finish participants were greeted by stilt-walking characters and snow. With Las Vegas only managing to attract 8,000 Santas, Liverpool was able to claim the title of the biggest Santa dash on the planet for the first time since 2010. It’s a far cry from the 2,000 runners who took part in the inaugural event in 2004. Since then, the event has not only grown in numbers but also expanded to include a 1K Mini Dash for
youngsters. For the city’s football fantatics, the introduction of blue Santa suits in 2010 means Evertonians no longer have to don their rival’s red. It’s not just Liverpudlians getting involved in the action. Santas from the south of England, the North East, Yorkshire and North Wales were joined at the event by a number of overseas participants travelling from America, Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Slovakia, South Africa and Switzerland.
BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell said of this
year’s achievement: “It is very fitting that we have regained the World Santa Challenge title on our 10th anniversary. We are now not only the UK’s biggest festive fun run – but now also the world’s. Well done Liverpool, you have done yourselves extremely proud.” Looking ahead to next year, BTR Liverpool will be hoping to hang on to their title. Will you be helping them do so?
