October D’Art Gallery will be launching ‘this corner of the earth’, a solo show of 30 new paintings by stewart


edmondson. those familiar with stewart’s paintings and those discovering


him for the first time will find work by an artist who is deeply connected to his subject. stewart has built a reputation for paintings which uniquely capture the solemn beauty of the moors and the majestic vistas of the Devon and cornish coast. stewart describes this show in his own words: “my collection of paintings is mostly from the place where I


live. this corner of the earth, on the southern edge of Dartmoor, nestled above the mighty river Dart and looking back down to the coastline of south Devon. they have been painted out there, in situ - down by the river, nestled in hedgerows or on trips exploring the cliffs and rocks and beaches… on some fine days, in the woods and meadows of mid/late springtime. “A friend told me that

my exhibitions seem to reflect the mood of the year, and looking back, that seems to be true. many of these paintings arose from the glory of the spring this year. It seemed that the bluebells were more vibrant than ever before… they filled the woodlands

and hedgerows and were shining way up on the slopes of the moor. the river valley at this time was warm and golden. Families gathered down in the early evening to swim and play and become immersed in the wonder of the place. that joyful feeling runs like a thread through many of these paintings.
